RingKarp says NO to greenwashing!

The only solution to the waste problem is to reduce waste.

RingKarp started from a situation where I was standing in front of a bin, trying to decide which bin to put the different types of waste in.

As for disposable food boxes, including biodegradable ones, it quickly became clear that it made little difference which bin I threw them in, as they could not be recycled anyway. I realised that I am environmentally friendly when I do not create waste. I started to pick up food with my own box, but this came with a number of challenges. I forgot my box at home. Or the café refused to put the food in my own box for food safety reasons. I kept worrying if the food would fit in the box I brought. And well, ordering food home was out of the question in our family.

At Christmas 2020, my mother and my sister and I decided that if we wanted to tackle the situation, we had to tackle it ourselves. In addition, there was a strong desire to make a bigger contribution to the environment than just avoiding a few single-use boxes.

We wanted to create a convenient way for all Estonians to buy food and drinks without waste.

  • 2021 - Negavatt Green Ideas Competition, Luminor Special Award, KIK employees favourite.

In 2021, we participated in the Negavatt Green Ideas Competition, where we won the 2nd place. In addition, we won a special award from Luminor and a employees favourite award from the Environmental Investment Centre.

  • In March 2021, we started with the RingKarp pilot project in 7 food outlets in Tallinn.

The pilot kept growing and today more than 70 restaurants in 9 Estonian counties have joined RingKarp.

  • In June 2021, we joined the pan-European circular network reCIRCLE

For the average consumer, being part of the network means that the same circulars can be used not only in Estonia but also in Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and the network is constantly expanding.

  • In February 2022, the first 100% disposable-free restaurant, Mona Restaurant in Ülemiste City, joined RingKarp.

In April, the first food outlet in Tartu, Delta café, joined the same principle.

In May, started a pilot project with Saaremaa Coop, where it will be possible to use the RingKarb system in the ready-made food counter of Kuressaare Konsum.

  • By using a RingKarp container even once a week, you can save 1.5 kg of rubbish a year.

Biodegradable packaging is also waste. Estonia does not have the capacity to recycle it. At least 200 disposable food cartons can be replaced by a single carton.

  • RingKarp container is always waiting for you at your favourite café or restaurant.

You can take your food home anytime, in an environmentally friendly way. RingKarp container is clean & beautiful - just like the food you put in it! Why use a disposable food or drink container when you can have stylish, convenient and hygienic ring boxes and cups.

  • RingKarp containers are free of charge. Or for life.

Fees for the use of the RingKarp container is charged on the first occasion. It's a one-off fee, and you can keep it for life. Better still, when it wears out, you can always replace it or sell it back to the food outlet for the same price.
